Fun filled, hands on day exploring the wonder of life upstairs and downstairs
Costumes, creative play and real artefacts in stunning Rockfield Estate, Kells County Meath
Children dress up as servants—caps, aprons & waistcoats, and get busy with the work of dairy maids, yard hands, laundry maids and kitchen staff—washing, collecting eggs, sweeping, mangling and a game or two!
When exploring the big house, the children ‘change their name, change their clothes and change the angle of their nose’ as they dress up and become Lords and Ladies of the Manor. Fancy finery combined with captivating activities – time-tested parlour games, a deportment class and dancing in drawing room.
There are farmyard animals to be visited in the sheds and fields at Rockfield. The gardens and courtyards are really beautiful spaces to enjoy too.
New this year – the children will get to raise their heartbeats on the pedal go-carts as we embrace how children’s play has changed through the ages with toys and experiences that are not always available to children living in urban areas.

Rockfield House (A82 V9D5) is located about 3 minutes drive from the end of the M3 motorway in Kells Co. Meath, just 45 minutes drive from the M50
From Dublin: Take the M3 to Kells. Take the exit Kells and take the 3rd exit from the roundabout heading in direction of Kells. Follow the R941 for approximately 1 km and take the first right (R164) at Kells Tennis Club.
Continue on R164 for approximately 1.8 km and after crossing the M3 motorway, Rockfield House is the first Gateway on the right.
From Kells town Centre, follow directions to Athboy. After crossing the M3 motorway, Rockfield House is the first Gateway on the right.

Teachers can enjoy complimentary tea/coffee and tasty treats in the parlour.
Our leaders facilitate all the activities and the tour lasts approx. 3.5 hours.
